Quentin Davies, who defected from the Conservative Party and joined Labour this summer, launched a stinging attack on David Cameron yesterday, which was warmly received by delegates.
In his resignation letter to David Cameron in June, Quentin made clear his disillusion with the Tory leadership, saying:
“Under your leadership the Conservative Party appears to me to have ceased collectively to believe in anything, or to stand for anything."
And yesterday, he accused the Tory leader of doing “consistently foolish, superficial and transparently contradictory things” and urged other Tory MPs to take the plunge, to join him and to join Labour.
Along with hailing Labour’s achievements on the economy and social justice, Quentin also praised Gordon Brown for his "sound judgement" and "great competence”. Speaking of his pride in the Labour Party, he said:
"You will find a party that knows where it is going and knows why it is going there.
"And you will find a leader who has proved to the country over the last two or three difficult months, when a whole series of unpredictable challenges had been thrown at him, that he is a man of immense dedication, tremendous conscientiousness, of extraordinary and consistent sound judgment, and of sheer great competence and experience."
